In the blink of an eye, 20 years have passed. I still remember stepping into Singapore for the first time, after being seconded from my first investment bank job in London. My journey has been more than lucky, being able to progress through the ever-changing financial markets. Was it just luck? Or did I owe it to the various mentors and people that have struck kindness on me?
Working on the ACI Singapore Charity Golf and Gala Dinner 2019 in the last few months made me feel "感恩" (grateful and appreciative). The previous committee members and the ACI Singapore team have done a tremendous job in the last 25 years to raise SGD 11.31 million for the needy. On this note, I would also like to extend my deepest appreciation to the sponsors and donors, both past and present, for making this possible. We would not have achieved this feat without your support, and we are truly grateful for it.
Once again, we are honoured to have Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister & Coordinating Minister for Social Policies, Chairman, Monetary Authority of Singapore to grace the event for the 14th time. Mr Shanmugaratnam has been a fervent supporter of our cause and he truly has been the pillar behind the betterment of the financial markets landscape in Singapore.
I would also like to thank each and every person for making this possible. Our industry continues to change fast and we are cognizant of the challenges ahead of us. With your involvement and commitment, ACI Singapore will continue to be that space where we can come together stronger in the face of those challenges. The gold old days might never come back, but let's strive together to maintain a meaningful and fulfilling profession.
“The Legacy Ball” is certainly an appropriate theme for this year, since all of us can play a part in a random act of kindness and leave behind incredible legacies which will live on in the hearts of our beneficiaries. Our beneficiaries this year are All Saints Home, Club Rainbow, Epworth Community Services, Halogen Foundation Singapore, New Life Community Services, REACH Community Services Society, Singapore Anglican Community Services, Taman Jurong CCC Community Development and Welfare Fund, Temasek Polytechnic, Tampines Central Community Development Welfare Committee and W!ld Rice.
We are expecting the largest and most inclusive get together of the financial markets community in our events this year. As Winston Churchill says "We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give." Let's make a difference to Singapore and leave a legacy of giving back together.
